The University Chaplaincies are an integral part of the mission of the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney and the wider 'new evangelisation'. Under the leadership of Archbishop Anthony Fisher, the Chaplaincies are a strong presence on the campuses of The University of Sydney, The University of New South Wales, Macquarie University and The University of Technology, Sydney. Fostering a holistic approach in its programs the Chaplaincies provide in depth religious, cultural, human and academic formation to students Catholic and non-Catholic alike.
University life is one of great adventure and discovery. Students meet new people, forge new ideas and re-define old ones. It is a time of excitement and great energy and it should lead to life-changing paths. It also has the great potential to be a time where one can grow in faith and virtue.
University Chaplaincies co-ordinate the sacramental and faith life on each campus and have a team dedicated to each. They also aim to connect students together and have a large variety of programs that are run in union with various Catholic student societies at each campus. University staff, too, are warmly welcome.
Activities such as charitable outreaches, discussion groups on ethical matters of concern, study camps and retreats help to achieve this end. The Student Societies are inherently linked to the Chaplaincies, and present an excellent opportunity for students to make friendships which will last a lifetime. It also offers many opportunities for social activities with other students who also are seeking to meet new people and grow in faith, thus enriching the quality of university life by these wonderful experiences of friendship. Alumni who have been involved with the Chaplaincies have gone on to make contributions to the wider community in various positions including politics, law, medicine and various other fields of note. Similarly there have been many marriages and vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
